YomaBarr Now this is a funny one. While it is fast ABM not losing speed even for a moment, things are going on underneath. They start with a couple of shy piano chords, then the piano goes full blast and before you even notice you get a whole orchestra playing a folk song. Yet all this remains consistent and cohesive. "The majestic second EP from Damián Ojeda project Kaskaskia receives a cassette release through the equally sublime Canti Eretici Productions.

A two-piece band with Tony Hicks (of Acheulean Forests, most notably for me, but many other projects too) Kaskaskia play some of the harsher, more earth-bound and rugged Black Metal music that Ojeda has a hand in.

Not to say it is devoid of the astral luminosity or emotive poignancy of Trha and Sadness but being themed around the progression of seasons - the first EP titled ‘Fleecian Winter Majesty’, and this one moving into Autumn in a backwards movement, taking Black Metal’s inverse, oppositional route to the natural order of things, naturally - the sound is founded in a more meteorological, ecological tone, of aged forests and fallen leaf litter, that gives this release a unique corporeal vitality in contrast to the cosmic, ethereal, ephemeral alienesque psychedelics of other projects.

The three tracks also have an excellent climactic progression through them, that lead the ear on a satisfying journey with immense resolution."

Merci Déhà for the download code. Lots of bands use these ingredients – pretty female vocals over doomy guitars always sounds good, but usually that's where the ideas run out. That isn't the case here. Each song is packed with ideas and evolutions, genres and references it's boring to list but not at all to listen to. A pleasure to have been introduced to this. Luke
